tv:if you use the console command "map mapname" to host an actual listen server then yes you have to port forward which is what you had to do when l4d2 first came out, but since they added support for the local host in the lobby settings server type its supposed to do it for you, although theres a variety of reasons it may not work whether its your anti virus, firewall, or router but shouldnt be the game, again unless its been broken recently (which is a possibility with the state of l4d2) Originally posted by DG | Tom Da Bomb S D. If your using the local host option from the lobby settings in-game and you still have to port forward for ppl to join then its your internet service provider (isp) not the game, but like i said the local host option in the lobby is kinda half broken anyway lol So id suggest trying to use sv_consistency 0 command in your game console first to try and fix the vpk_association error before you port forward, unless you installed an actual server locally Opened Steam Socket NS_CLIENT ( virtual port 27005 ) : listen socket handle( 46 ) Opened Steam Socket NS_SERVER ( virtual port 27015 ) : listen socket handle( 65581 ) When choosing the local host option in the lobby of the client version of the game it handles it which is what this is saying about the virtual ports
